Can You Fly With Sex Toys?

If you’ve ever wondered whether you were allowed to take vibrators and other sex toys onto a plane, read on.

I like to travel light. Only the essentials. However, there is one essential that I always end up leaving behind.

My loyal vibrator.

I don’t want to leave it. I lay it out on my bed with my panties, passport and other things to be packed. Then I sigh and put it back in the drawer of my nightstand.

It just isn’t worth the risk, which I can picture oh-so-clearly in my mind.

I’m going through security. My laptop, tablet and other random mess is spread through 3 trays. I’m flustered. My bag doesn’t come through — it has been sent to where the naughty bags go. A security agent in latex gloves calls me over. They have spotted something pointy in my bag. They have to inspect. They pull out my bright pink vibrator for everyone to see.

I promptly melt into a puddle of awkwardness on the floor.

It is a shame, though. I’m a solo traveler. I like to be fully independent. I’m pretty sure if I’d been back-packing with my vibe, it would have saved me from multiple regrettable holiday hook-ups.

So, as I prepare for my next solo trip, I decided to do a bit of research. And work out how to bring my favorite phallic bit of silicone with me.

Are Sex Toys Allowed in your Cabin Luggage?

Whenever possible, I try to fly with only cabin luggage. It saves so much money and time. It does mean leaving some toiletries behind, though.

So, what are the rules regarding sex toys?

Well, after scanning the websites of several flight companies, I can officially say that it isn’t very clear. Whether sex toys are allowed in your cabin luggage depends on the airline, specific airport regulations, the battery capacity of your little friend, etc.

Well, isn’t this an extremely helpful and comprehensive guide?

Unfortunately, airlines and airports have a certain amount of discretion over what is allowed in luggage. There is no general rule.

Check with your airline for their policies and guidelines regarding the transportation of sex toys in cabin luggage. Many don’t have specific regulations. So why not just wing it? Excuse the pun.

It is worth noting, however, that handcuffs are a no-no in your cabin luggage. Zip ties should be fine.

Getting Sex Toys Through Airport Security

Security officers are trained to recognize various items, and sex toys are typically not a cause for concern. But there is still a chance it could lead to the nightmare scenario mentioned above. Apparently, if you’re concerned about privacy, you can request a private screening.

You can also whack your neon plastic into a discreet pouch. This will allow the security agent to take a peak inside without the rest of the airport knowing.

It is recommended to remove the batteries from your toy or make sure it is turned off during your flight. So you don’t have to strive to look innocent when you hear the entire overhead compartment shake.

Plus, anyone who has seen fight club knows, modern bombs don’t tick. They vibrate.

The easier option is to stick it in your checked luggage. Then you can forget about it until you are in your hotel on the other side of the world.

Laws and Customs: Which Countries Ban Sex Toys?

It is worth noting that in some countries, sex toys are illegal. These include Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, Vietnam and some states of India, . This list is not exhaustive. It is worth checking the local laws, especially if you are traveling to a more conservative or religious country.

Traveling with a dildo for personal use usually won’t get you into trouble. The laws are mainly aimed at preventing the sale and enjoyment of sex toys by local populations. But it is still worth bearing in mind.

Conclusion: How to Travel with a Vibrator?

Yes, you can travel with a vibrator— but some simple preparation can help ease your mind.

  • Check your airline’s luggage policies to ensure your toy meets the rules.
  • Use a discreet travel pouch and request a private screening if needed.
  • Remove batteries or turn off your vibrator during flights to avoid surprises.
  • Research local laws if you’re traveling to a country which may have strict rules around sex toys.

Wishing you very pleasurable solo adventures,
